GSM subscriber growth was at 123% in June 2004

The number of GSM subscribers grew 123% from June 2003 to 2004, pushing it well into the lead as the most widely used wide-area wireless technology in the Americas. In the US and Canada, traditionally heavily CDMA-based, GSM grew 85%, four times the growth rate for other mobile technologies.

The number of GSM subscribers grew 123% from June 2003 to 2004, pushing it well into the lead as the most widely used wide-area wireless technology in the Americas. In the US and Canada, traditionally heavily CDMA-based, GSM grew 85%, four times the growth rate for other mobile technologies. In Latin America, GSM pulled in a 192% annual growth rate. Globally, 82% of new digital wireless customers, 57.8 mln out of 70.3 mln, started their mobile lives with GSM.
