Recent buyers of Hayes Optima or Accura 28.8kbits/sec or 33.6kbits/sec modems will receive a free upgrade while owners of earlier devices will be entitled to a low-priced upgrade. A competitive upgrade to lure owners of other brands will also be available.

Hayes is in the K56Flex specification camp that is led by Rockwell Semiconductor and Lucent Technologies. Chipsets are expected to be delivered to modem makers inside a fortnight.
