If you're managing an Internet Web site, wouldn't you like to be alerted by SMS if your Web site is having problems? Setting up a monitoring server with SMS in your data centre can be a hassle--why not consider subscribing to an external monitoring service that can monitor your Web site and send you SMS alerts?

There are service providers like WebSitePulse that can monitor your Web site every 5 minutes and send you an SMS alert if an error occurs or if your Web site is responding too slowly. All you need to do is register online for an account and give them the URL of your Web site to monitor.

If you wish to monitor multiple components of your Web site (e.g. Web, application and database servers), you may create separate Web site scripts (e.g. using JSP, ASP.NET, PHP) to test each component, and let the monitoring service monitor each script.
