24 November 1999, Singapore - Hitachi Data Systems announced that it is financially backing its claims of 99.999 percent operational availability for its Skyline Trinium server customers, with a US$1,000,000 per year warrantee.

Said Yoshihiro Koshimizu, its Chairman and CEO: "We have boldly stated that the Trinium is the most available, fastest and scalable processor for the S/390 environment. This announcement underscores our confidence in Trinium's availability. We designed the Skyline Trinium specifically for e-business, core mission-critical applications, and to reduce business complexity; there are no hidden clauses in Hitachi's Five 9's guarantee."

The Skyline Trinium is Hitachi Data Systems' flagship mainframe processing platform for e-commerce and systems that need to be run continuously. It features comprehensive redundancy and dynamic failover on critical components, including physical instruction processors, service processors, I/O channel processors, memory and channel controllers.

Under the terms of warranty, Trinium customers are guaranteed 99.999 percent availability, fully backed by Hitach Data Systems. Should a Trinium fail to meet the uptime warrantee in a properly upheld environment, Hitach will offer future credit of up to US$1m per year. The warranty applies only to systems that have both concurrent maintenance and concurrent upgrades installed and enabled. The Five 9's warantee does not require external clustering such as Parallel Sysplex.
