How many telecommuters does it take to save a rainforest?

Some hard-core managers may still be against people working outside their direct oversight, but the economic climate AND the push toward sustainable business practices are convincing more companies to consider the benefits of telecommuting. One of the technology vendors supporting this space, SonicWALL, has jumped on that opportunity, creating a calculator tool that businesses can use to run some numbers on whether or not their organization would benefit from telecommuting.

The calculator will evaluate the cost-savings potential according to weekly, monthly or annual time frames. It primarily looks at the emissions diverted by the practice as well as fuel saved. If you feel like giving up your e-mail address, the company also has inked the ubiquitous white paper touting its position on this whole topic, which it calls teleworking (vs. telecommuting).

Here's the link to the calculator.
