HP, Acer reveal UK Chromebook prices, as Chromecast arrives in Europe

Summary:New Chromebooks from Acer and HP are on their way to Europe before the end of the month.

Acer's new Intel Haswell Chromebook and HP's first ARM-based Chromebook will be available in the UK and other markets across Europe from £199.

The cheaper of the two new generation Chromebooks is Acer's C720 Chromebook, which will arrive in Switzerland, Germany, UK, France, Netherlands, Sweden and Finland by the end of October. Prices start at €249 in Europe and £199 in the UK.

The Chromebook has Intel's new Haswell-based Celeron processor, while the display is at 1366x768 resolution. It offers 16GB SSD storage, supports up to 4GB RAM, and promises 8.5 hours battery life. Thinner than its predecessor, it weighs in at 1.3kg.

The new offering from Acer comes in under Samsung's 12.1-inch Series 5 550 wi-fi Chromebook on Amazon UK, which currently costs £300.

HP's new 11.6-inch ARM-based Chromebook will be available in the UK via Curries for £229 by the end of October.

Like the Acer Chromebook, it has 16GB SSD storage and and a display at 1366x768 resolution, but it runs Samsung's Exynos 5250 GAIA processor. The Chromebook comes with 2GB RAM, weighs 1.04 kg and HP is promising up to six hours battery life.

The two new Chromebooks come as Google's Chromecast HDMI media streamer also arrives in the UK at Amazon at a hefty — compared to the $35 price tag in the US — £59.99.
