HP brings Pro x2 612 detachable laptop, Elite 700 PCs to work

After setting its back-to-school lineup the other day, HP is now turning its sights on the corporate world, unveiling the Elite 700 series of desktops and laptops along with its first commercial detachable PC in the Pro x2 612. 

The Pro x2 612 (pictured above) is the sexier offering, allowing workers to remove the 12.5-inch display from the keyboard base to turn it into a big Windows 8 tablet. HP is emphasizing flexibility with configurations, letting businesses choose from purchasing the Pro Tablet 612 as a standalone device, or pairing it with either the Pro x2 612 Power Keyboard (complete with embedded battery and additional ports) or a more mobile-friendly keyboard with fewer connectivity options and no built-in battery.

Security features include HP's own BIOSphere, Client Security, and Sure Start technologies, as well as a Trusted Platform Module and optional fingerprint reader. Other options available are a Wacom digital pen and Qualcomm Gobi 4G LTE modem. No pricing has been announced for either the Pro x2 612 or Pro Tablet 612, but HP says they will be available in September.

Coming soon are many members of the Elite 700 family, which comprises assorted flavors of both desktop PCs and portables. That includes the EliteOne 700 All-in-One, which is built around a 23-inch full HD display and AMD Pro A-Series APUs, as well as EliteBook notebooks with either AMD or Intel options. The EliteBook 740 and 750 include some Ultrabook models (remember them?), and all versions are built to measure up to MIL-STD 810G testing for ruggedness.

For traditional corporate computing duties, the EliteDesk 700 line, again offering either AMD or Intel processor choices, comes in three different form factors (from small to smallest): microtower, small-form factor, and mini, the latter of which includes a built-in wireless antenna, but is available with AMD CPUs only. Like the Pro x2 612, the Elite 700 includes enterprise security features like HP Client Security and Sure Start.

Also as with the Pro x 612, HP has not disclosed pricing on many members of the Elite 700 family, though the EliteBook 725, 745, 755 will be available this month at $799, $739 and $749, respectively. Intel-based EliteBooks (720, 740, and 750) are coming in August, while the EliteOne ships in September and the EliteDesk 700 configurations will be variously shipping in July, September, and November.
