SAN FRANCISCO -- Computer and printer maker Hewlett-Packard Co. will cut less than 2 percent of its approximately 88,500 positions in a long-planned marketing restructuring, a company spokeswoman said on Friday.

That 2 percent would involve more than 1,700 positions, although the exact number had not been determined yet, Suzette Stephens told Reuters.

Plans for the cuts were announced this week in an internal company memo and will take place by the end of April, she said. "Basically we are completely restructuring the marketing organization across the world in HP (hwp). We've communicated that for a very long time,'' she said. Full story to follow. -- Reuters
