HP today announced new communication, collaboration and networking tools targeted at small- and medium-sized businesses. It also introduced new storage capabilities and online services that allow SMBs to protect their data and manage their operations.

As online business tools evolve, many are designed to help enterprises increase efficiency and reduce expenses. Smaller businesses, however, can also benefit from online-based offerings. Among those being announced today:

  • HP Virtual Rooms are remote online collaboration "rooms" where employees, partners or clients can meet to share documents, launch whiteboard brainstorming sessions or just generally collaborate.
  • Small Biz Nation is a partnered tool that brings HP, Intel and LinkedIn together to offer peer-to-peer support and networking opportunities in a LinkedIn community.
  • HP 48Upper targets mid-sized businesses through an online social service that allows IT folks to manage across all of the IT processes, including project planning, operations and service management.

The company also introduced new offerings in storage and performance, as well as online support and helpdesk tools.
