HP launches pre-integrated systems for NFV

NFV is a key technology for telecom carriers and allows them to deploy services faster. NFV is also likely to hit the enterprise too at some point.

HP's NFV System is a platform designed for communications services providers. HP is looking to bolster its networking share as well as tie carriers into its Helion OpenStack cloud platform.

In addition, HP launched NFV Director 3.0, which manages communications providers operations, analytics, and network management and orchestration. Analytics are provided by HP's Vertica big data software.

HP's NFV stack includes hardware, software and so-called system kits, which are designed for specific use cases. HP's NFV system includes:

  • An NFV Starter Kit that includes compute and control nodes as well as virtual infrastructure management software. Helion OpenStack Carrier Grade is also included.
  • NFV Compute Kit, which is a series of server nodes to run virtual network functions.
  • NFV Control Kit includes virtual infrastructure software, HP OneView, Intelligent Management Center and Central Management Console.
  • NFV Storage Kit, which can be integrated with the starter kit for storage intensive workloads.

The NFV kits will be available in the third quarter.
