HP springs £130 print server on SoHo
Hewlett-Packard (HP) is turning to small business with its latest Jet Direct print server.
The JetDirect 150X (£130 list) connects printers directly to Novell or Windows NT networks to speed printing; HP claims independent tests show a 25-page file can be processed in two minutes and 49 seconds. The print server comes with HP's JetAdmin management software and quick installation guide and supports recent HP printers that can relay status information such as when paper needs to be refilled or ink is low.
HP said the product is aimed at answering a growth area of the market: according to IDC, 80 per cent of small businesses will be hooked up to a network by the year 2000.
