HTC Hero firmware update delayed again?

As most HTC Hero users will be aware, they are stuck on a very old form of Android — version 1.5.

As most HTC Hero users will be aware, they are stuck on a very old form of Android — version 1.5. Even users of the T-Mobile G1, the first Android phone, are on 1.6, which is required for all sorts of things including turn-by-turn navigation.

Back in February, the Hero was supposed to get shiny new Android 2.1 before mid-April. Then it became late April — or, if you prefer, "now".

At today's launch of Google Maps Navigation for the UK, the company's mobile maps chief, Steve Lee, cheerfully told the assembled hacks that Hero users would be able to use the new feature when they get their firmware upgrade "in June".

Yes, June. Let's give HTC a call...

UPDATE: Waiting for some info from HTC. Further thought - if HTC squeezes its update out in June, it'll be even more time before the operators roll out their customised versions...
