HTC to update EVO 3D, Sensation with support for bootloader unlocking

Summary:HTC is finally delivering its promise to unlock the bootloaders on future phones, starting with the EVO 3D and Sensation.

Good news for Android hackers: HTC is finally making good on its deicion to unlock the bootloaders of its phones.

Starting August, HTC release software updates for the EVO 3D and Sensation that will support bootloader unlocking. Not the process is going to be particularly easy: HTC says that making the changes requires a fair bit of wizardry and testing, which likely explains the delay in phones getting the tweaks. The EVO 3D and Sensation are the first of likely many phones to see the changes.

In May, HTC CEO Peter Chou said that the decision was a a result of consumer demand for the feature. Motorola made a smilar announcement earlier this year as well, announcing that phones released in the latter part of 2011 would ship locked bootloader-free. That status, however, won't apply to the Droid 3, which isn't exactly leading the unlocked bootloader charge.
