The local operation of Chinese networking vendor Huawei has a new managing director following the departure of incumbent Rio Zhang in August.

A spokesperson for the company told ZDNet Australia this morning Zhang had returned to a position in China.

The executive's replacement will be Joseph Zhou, who has previously overseen the vendor's major telecommunications accounts in Australia.

"Based in Sydney, Zhou is responsible for all sales, product development and delivery for Huawei in Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific," a statement issued by the company this morning said.

Zhou joined Huawei in 1995, and has worked for the company in China and the sub-Sahara region. He graduated with a degree in software engineering and holds an MBA from Nan Kai University in China.

Huawei boasts a number of local telcos as customers. One of its largest deals is seeing the company contribute hardware for Optus's new ADSL2+ broadband network.
