in brief The Australian arm of Chinese network vendor Huawei has poached Lenovo Australia and New Zealand's chief financial officer following the promotion of its existing chief financial officer (CFO) in October.

Lenovo's CFO Luke Austin has been appointed as the new Huawei Australia CFO replacing Brian Hoppe, who took on the global role of vice president sales and delivery finance in Huawei's Shenzen office in October, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Austin joins Huawei after a six-year stint at Lenovo, following the acquisition of IBM's personal computing division in 2005.

Austin's appointment comes as Huawei has grown its presence in Australia from 300 staff in 2010 to close to 800 at the end of 2011. The company has begun work with all major telco operators in Australia, including taking on the massive task of overhauling Vodafone's network with new equipment for 2G, 3G and long-term evolution (LTE).
