In a nutshell, IBM is weaving DevOps into its portfolio. The DevOps tools come from IBM's Rational Software unit.  Here's the breakdown of DevOps additions to SmartCloud and MobileFirst.

Under SmartCloud, IBM is adding the following DevOps tools:

  • Log analysis under its cloud analytics tools. Log analysis allows developers to track unstructured data from infrastructure and applications. Analysis of the logs is automated.
  • Monitoring application insight, which tracks real-time performance and availability of cloud hosted applications. Developers will fold monitoring into the development process.
  • Application services so developers can deploy and manage applications in PHP using Zend Server 6.

As for the MobileFirst additions, IBM said it is adding a Rational Test Workbench, which will allow developers to virtualize mobile app testing for multiple devices.

IBM also said it is combining Worklight, a development platform, with its SmartCloud application services. The connection means that companies can build mobile applications faster without upfront management and capital costs.

In addition, IBM said it has expanded its developerWorks site to include mobile, cloud, big data and application development.
