in brief IBM today said it would create 300 new technology jobs in the Victorian city of Ballarat, using government funding to open a new building at Ballarat Technology Park.

An IBM spokesperson told ZDNet.com.au the firm already had around 817 staff in the city, following continued investment over the past decade, with ongoing assistance from the state government. Today's move would add a further 300 roles to that roster.

Victorian premier John Brumby said the government would cough up $5 million from the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund to support the construction of the new IBM facility, which would cost $10.8 million in total.

The state government said Victoria's ICT industry generated $24.4 billion in annual revenues and employed more than 84,000 people.
