IBM and Box have announced a global partnership designed to advance cloud solutions worldwide.

The collaboration between Big Blue and the cloud storage service provider was unveiled on Tuesday. Both companies will contribute existing products and technologies in order to design "new, innovative solutions" targeted across a range of industries and professions including the enterprise, medical industry, mobility, cybersecurity and consumer services.

IBM's analytics platform, social solutions, security portfolio and the IBM Cloud will be brought together with Box's cloud content collaboration platform.

The companies will jointly sell these solutions.

The companies will partner in three key areas -- the enterprise, security, and mobile.

Within the enterprise, Box will enable joint clients to store their content on the IBM Cloud, and both Big Blue's enterprise content management system and IBM Watson analytics will be integrated with Box solutions. Box's APIs will be integrated into a number of enterprise apps and web services.

When it comes to security, the tech giants say Box will assist in advancing enterprise security offerings through IBM technology for threat detection, analysis, identity protection and device management.

In addition, Box and IBM will jointly develop content management solutions and incorporate Box technology into a number of IBM MobileFirst for iOS apps, and Box APIs will be integrated within the IBM Bluemix developer cloud.

The terms of the deal, intended to streamline operations, data analysis and corporate services across the enterprise, were not disclosed.

Bob Picciano, senior vice president of IBM Analytics commented:

"This partnership will transform the way work is done in industries and professions that shape our experience every day. The impact will be felt by experts and professionals in industries such as healthcare, financial services, law, and engineering who are overwhelmed by today's digital data and seek better solutions to manage large volumes of information more intelligently and securely.

The integration of IBM and Box technologies, combined with our global cloud capabilities and the ability to enrich content with analytics, will help unlock actionable insights for use across the enterprise."
