IBM buys Star Analytics for software portfolio

Summary:Star Analytics' portfolio will be lumped into IBM's Financial Performance Management unit, a part of the company's analytics group.

IBM said Friday that it will acquire Star Analytics and the software portfolio that goes with it.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

In a statement, IBM said that Star Analytics' software will bolster its analytics group. Big Blue's plan is to automate data and the intelligence it provides as much as possible. Star Analytics applications integrate reporting and business intelligence tools in the cloud and on-premise.

The plan for Star Analytics is to use it to extract data in financial applications.

According to Star Analytics CEO Quinlan Eddy the company's portfolio will be lumped into IBM's Financial Performance Management unit, a part of the company's analytics group.
