IBM launches Blueworks Live, business process fixes as a service

Blueworks is designed to give you templates and best practices to automate processes like on-boarding a new employee or sales quota approvals and other ad hoc corporate tasks that can gum up the works.

IBM on Tuesday will roll out a business process management as a service tool for $10 per user a month.

The effort dubbed Blueworks Live is notable for those of you that have to make business processes more efficient. In a nutshell, Blueworks is designed to give you templates and best practices to automate processes like on-boarding a new employee or sales quota approvals and other ad hoc corporate tasks that can gum up the works.

Blueworks Live takes IBM's knowledge from various consulting gigs and makes them open to the public. Most process improvements are done via email, spreadsheet and attachments. Kind of inefficient eh?

Via Blueworks Live workers can collaborate on how to improve and document better processes. Paul Brunet, vice president of product marketing for IBM's WebSphere portfolio, said Blueworks will go live Nov. 20.

Brunet added that Blueworks is also aimed at small and mid-sized businesses.

What's in it for IBM? Blueworks Live is a starter set for a larger Lombardi edition that can automate processes and integrate them with the back-end infrastructure. IBM acquired Lombardi in January and launched a licensed edition for more complicated business process management fixes.

The Blueworks announcement is part of a broader WebSphere update that includes a new application server migration toolkit, a new version of the WebSphere MQ message security system and a new WebSphere DataPower Cast Iron Appliance XH35.
