IBM extended the compatibility of its CloudBurst private cloud product on Wednesday by making it compatible with IBM's own proprietary Power7 systems.

The CloudBurst products, launched in June 2009, are a set of integrated hardware, storage, virtualisation and networking products with built-in management systems for setting up private clouds.

Power7 hardware is based on a proprietary IBM Power7 processor design, announced in July 2009, that sits inside the new range of Power7 Unix servers, launched August 2010.

The new product that IBM announced —€” the IBM CloudBurst v2.1 on Power Systems —€” is based on IBM Power 750 servers. It can support between 160 and 2,900 virtual machines and will be available from 17 December.
