IDC: PC sales down in South Korea

PC sales in Q3 2003 shrank 14% to 729,000 units from a year earlier. PC sales in Q3 dropped by 10.8% from the previous quarter. In the cited quarter, desktop computer sales fell 19.8% to 573,000 units from a year earlier. Notebook computer sales jumped 16.6% to 140,000 units year-on-year, but were down 6.6% from the previous quarter. In sharp contrast, worldwide PC sales jumped 15.7% in the third quarter to 38.4M units, showing strong signs of recovery. Gartner Dataquest's Korean unit said South Korea is the only nation in the Asia-Pacific region to witness a decline in PC demand.
