If you're expecting a new iPad on Friday, make sure there's someone around to sign for it

I, like many others here at ZDNet, ordered a new iPad that should be delivered on Friday. I also ordered a new Smart Cover to go with it.

As it turns out, the Smart Cover was delivered today, at about 11:20am, by Fedex.

I live in a very quiet, pretty safe neighborhood. Pretty much the scariest thing in the neighborhood is, well, me (especially in the morning), and so when Fedex delivers, they usually just ring the bell and leave whatever package we're getting on the porch.

Not this time. When the Fedex guy showed up with the Smart Cover, the Fedex guy rang the bell, as usual. Then he rang it again. And again. This was a very impatient Fedex guy, because this time, he wanted a signature before he was willing to hand me the thin, unmarked box.

So, here's my warning to you. If you ordered an iPad and expect it to show up on Friday, make sure you (or a designated signer) are around to sign it. Otherwise, no iPad for you!
