Of course the trial lawyers had to get in on the recent spate of revelations of breaches at companies such as DSW Warehouse, Lexis-Nexis, and Choicepoint. Just one more reason for those that handle customer information to take measures to prevent data loss.

A prominent story in the Wall Street Journal today points out that CardServices is also being sued. Meanwhile the Ohio Attorney General, Jim Petro, filed suit against DSW Wharehouse to get them to notify an additional 700,000 customers that their credit card info had been lost.

Bruce Schneier likes to point out that notification causes public embarrassment that he hopes will lead organizations to better protect themselves. It’s the “stay off the front page of the Wall Street Journal
