Incredible photos of Earth from space

The best photos of Earth as shot by the European Space Agency and available on its popular Flickr stream.

While researching the iPhones in space story, I came across an article in the Guardian of London about the incredibly popular Flickr stream of the European Space Agency. Seen by tens of thousands of people, the agency displays photos of the International Space Station and the docked space shuttle Endeavour, shuttle launches and trainings.

But the most spectacular photos are its shots of Earth. I put together this gallery of the best ESA photos of our home planet , including images of some of the most memorable events of the last two years, such as "snowmaggedon," the Iceland volcano (shown above) and the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Enjoy.
