Indonesia's Telkom eyeing 5 markets for expansion

Summary:Country's largest carrier has set sights on Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Macau, South Korea and Taiwan to grow its business this year.

Telkom Indonesia is aiming to expand into five markets this year, namely Myanmar, Saudi Arabia, Macau, South Korea and Taiwan.

Telkom looks to expand further overseas.

Muhammad Awaluddin, director of enterprise and wholesale at Telkom, said the carrier was ready to take part in Myanmar's license tender, according to a report Tuesday by Bisnis. It joins a handful of other telcos who have already expressed interest , including SingTel, Telenor, Axiata, ST Telemedia, and Bharti Airtel .

After Myanmar, Telkom will soon prepare for expansion to the four other countries, said Awaluddin in the report, but it has not decided on the kind of business models for those markets.

"For the next four countries we are studying the markets, regulations and the type of technology we can apply there," said Awaluddin in the article.

Telkom is already operating overseas in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Australia, and Timor Leste.
