Enterprise software maker Infor announced Wednesday a new tool designed to help small and midsize businesses (SMBs) manage their assets.

Previously known as Datastream, the Infor EAM MP2 is an upgrade from a previous offering of the same brand name, and is touted to improve plant performance while minimize operating costs.

According to Infor, SMBs can use the software to control critical functions such as work orders, purchasing, inventory and preventative maintenance, without incurring the costs and time that is usually spent on the implementation of large-scale installations.

In addition, the software provides quick access to critical maintenance information for multi-site users, as well as automates the process of tracking, maintaining and managing capital assets.

Businesses can therefore maximize equipment uptime, while controlling their labor and inventory costs.

Infor said the EAM MP2 is available worldwide, but was unable to provide pricing details.

This latest version of the software includes an updated user interface, as well as support for Microsoft’s SQL Server Express, SQL Server 2005, and Windows Vista.

In May 2006, Infor announced plans to acquire rival SSA Global for about US$1.4 billion. The transaction was completed on Jul. 28, 2006.
