Intel gives timing for Sandy Bridge launch

Intel will unveil its range of Sandy Bridge processors at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, according to reports.

Sandy Bridge will likely provide a graphics boost over current Intel chipsets, as it will integrate the GPU component of those chipsets onto the same silicon as the CPU — this should provide power consumption and speed advantages over current Intel processors, which have 45nm-manufactured GPUs alongside 32nm-manufactured CPUs.

According to ZDNet UK's sister site CNET News, the Sandy Bridge processors will be shown in Las Vegas on 5 January.

Meanwhile, according to Digitimes, Intel has begun phasing out 21 of its 45nm CPUs to make way for the Sandy Bridge generation, which will almost certainly make it into PCs from every major manufacturer.
