Intel's Centrino 2 + WiMAX could break the Luddite Telcos

I was at Intel's Centrino 2 launch on Monday and I'm hoping that Centrino 2 can do the same thing Centrino 1 did for WiFi but this time for WiMAX -- make it a reality. The timing for Centrino 2 to be a change agent for WiMAX, as Centrino 1 was for WiFi is perfect. Here is a short video of Intel's pitch about the chip and about WiMAX:

YouTube - Centrino 2 - And Social Media....

I hope Intel succeeds with Centrino 2 plus WiMAX because the telcos have been acting as Luddites and keeping us in the dark ages when it comes to which new technologies we can use. The Telcos control our mobile handsets, they control what features can and cannot be used. Apple is the only company that has managed to challenge them so far. [Please see: The trojan Horse iPhone] But Apple and others, haven't yet managed to wrest control away from the Telcos. The Telcos control all our mobile technology they don't want a PC-ization to occur because they wouldn't make any money, they would become commoditised bit carriers. WiMAX has the potential to vault over the "last mile," the golden mile, and take control away from the Telcos. And WiMAX is not that far away, if you live in the right part of the world you can get it very soon. If you look at my video you will see that WiMAX is coming to Baltimore in September then Washington D.C soon after. [Why doesn't WiMAX roll out in San Francisco/Silicon Valley first? That would be great, I would love that but that's because I live here. But I also write about this stuff, that would be better for WiMAX.] I don't know anyone in Baltimore. Why does the cool stuff get rolled out in Baltimore?
