Storage provider Iomega today announced two VMware Ready Certified networks attached storage products designed to give small businesses the same virtualization flexibility as their enterprise-level counterparts.

A small business running Exchange on one server and another application on another server could run both apps on a single server and an NAS, the company said, reducing upfront costs, server power consumption and server management time.

The company said the products are really designed for users who are considering virtualization for the first time and need shared storage to fully utilize the VMware platform. In a release, the company said:

Typically, small businesses and other similarly sized work groups within larger organizations require cost-effective equipment for test and development, proofs of concept, and low risk initial deployments. These smaller user groups must adhere to the same regulatory and legal requirements as large enterprises – often without the same financial resources to invest in their data management solutions.

With these products, Iomega is also targeting larger organizations thinking about virtualization in branch office environments. It also has published a whitepaper on the use of network attached storage to help small businesses grow.
