As the manufacturer and marketer of IP-enabled Switchvox PBX systems, Four Loop Technologies is in a good position to observe specific as well as general trends in the universe of IP telephony.

Four Loop's perspective is especially relevant when you take into account its interest in partnering with small business-oriented VoIP access providers.

In an interview with Colin Haley of Internet News, Four Loop CEO Josh Stephens says that expenses involved with impending FCC-mandated E911 access will cause a type of meltdown among those smaller providers.

"We're noticing a lot more panic in the lower end," says Stephens. "Unless someone comes out with a really clever way to solve this (expense gearing up for E911) for the little guy, those guys will evaporate."

Stephens implied, though, that the situation might not be hopeless. He says that smaller VoIP access providers could band together into buying consortia to negotiate better rates from equipment vendors.
