Japan's NTT ME to help cable TV firms offer Net connections

Tokyo, 3 Mar 2000 (Asia Pulse) - NTT-ME Corp will help cable TV firms provide Internet connections, company officials say.

The engineering affiliate of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp (TSE:9432) will provide backbone lines, design and system construction and operate and maintain facilities. NTT-ME will offer high-speed optical-fibre connections between cable TV networks and the Internet.

The service will link up to homes using lines and servers provided by cable TV operators. Moves by cable TV operators to offer Internet services have prompted the company to offer the new service. NTT-ME aims to contract with 30 cable TV operators over three years.
