Jaspersoft 6.0 packs in more dashboard tools for developers

Powering the new features is the Visualize.js API, which is Jaspersoft's JavaScript-based framework used for embedding BI components into web-based applications.

Tibco has released version 6.0 of its Jaspersoft business intelligence software, with new features aimed at giving developers more control over dashboards.

Tibco bought Jaspersoft back in April for $185 million. The goal of the deal was to build out Jaspersoft's commercial open source business as well as embed analytics into other applications.

Powering the new features in Jaspersoft 6.0 is the Visualize.js API, which is Jaspersoft's JavaScript-based framework used for embedding BI components into web-based applications that was rolled out in June with version 5.6

Developers will find more dashboard embedding capabilities, which will allow developers to control the interactivity, look and interoperability of their dashboards.

The customization goes even further with the dashboard designer, which Tibco says gives developers the ability to build responsive dashboards with just a browser, and to easily deploy each dashboard in-app or share with a team.

There are also new heat map visualizations that provide color-coded ranges of data for spotting outliers, along with interactive report workbooks and pluggable customer visualizations.

"Since launching our popular Visualize.js framework for reports earlier this year, we knew customers would expect the simplicity and flexibility of JavaScript for their dashboards," said Brian Gentile, SVP and GM of Tibco, in a statement. "With Jaspersoft 6, developers not only get greater control over their embedded dashboards thanks to the Visualize.js framework, but they can now quickly build and edit them using the new designer."
