Jobs: iPhone software update 'coming soon'

An iPhone 3G user suffering from poor iOS 4 performance on his device decided to take his question directly to the top of the mountain -- and got a reply.

Not satisfied with the performance of iOS 4.0, 4.0.1, or 4.0.2 on his now two-generations old iPhone 3G, he sent the following email to Steve Jobs:

I've waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I've read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I'm not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.

Jobs' response?:

Software update coming soon.

It would seem that the Apple CEO was referring to the iOS 4.1 software update that's currently being tested with developers in his hasty reply -- it's the only build being currently tested.

While "soon" could technically mean anything, Jobs probably wouldn't have offered that little nugget unless something really was coming "soon." Would he?

I'm betting that iOS 4.1 will be released in time for the Fall iPod event next month. Just a hunch.
