SAP has announced that John Ruthven has been appointed as president and managing director for SAP Australia and New Zealand, effective immediately.

Ruthven succeeds Andrew Barkla who, according to SAP, has departed the company to take on a new leadership role outside of the industry. Ruthven will report to president Adaire Fox-Martin.

Fox-Martin commended Barkla for his contribution to the company for the last three years as managing director, including driving growth in Australia and New Zealand.

"We thank Andrew Barkla for his leadership in this transformative phase for SAP and look forward to John's proven ability to scale business outcomes for our customers," he said.

Ruthven joined SAP in January 2014 as regional lead for cloud and line of business solutions across the SAP Asia Pacific region. He later transitioned to chief operating officer in August 2014. Prior to joining SAP, Ruthven held management roles with Zuora and CA Technologies.
