ThinkOutside use to rule the market for Bluetooth keyboards, but went away a couple of years ago. The Jorno BT keyboard is available for pre-order for $79 and works with a variety of smartphones.

Mobile devices like the iPad, iPhone, and large Android smartphones are great mobile companions and with programs like Quickoffice and Documents To Go you can be quite productive with them. I have a ThinkOutside Stowaway Bluetooth keyboard that is no longer sold and has limited functionality today due to Bluetooth connectivity issues. Cervantes Mobile announced they are launching a new folding BT keyboard for iOS and Android devices in early 2011 and if you pre-order now you can save $20 and pick one up for $79 instead of $99 (special price good until 31 October).

The Jorno Bluetooth keyboard looks to fold down to a very compact size and comes with a detachable cradle to hold your device in portrait or landscape orientation. The press release states the keyboard becomes rigid when folded out too so you shouldn't have it collapsing on your lap when you are trying to use it on your lap. Performance of the device is highly dependent on the driver support and what keys are supported outside of the standard alphabet and numbers. For example, are there quick application launch keys, home/menu keys, or other convenience keys that would make you more efficient by using one of these keyboards.

Specifications include the following:

  • 3.5 x 3.5 x 0.9 inches (folded)
  • 8.5 x 3.5 x 0.3 inches (unfolded)
  • 8.8 ounces
  • Bluetooth 2.1 radio
  • MiniUSB charging cable (should be microUSB, which is the new smartphone standard)

The Jorno Bluetooth keyboard is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows Mobile 6/6.5, RIM BlackBerry and Symbian devices so you can use it with a variety of smartphones and Windows PCs. I may pre-order one myself to check it out. Does an external Bluetooth keyboard interest you too?
