Juniper Networks entered into a definitive agreement to acquire BTI Systems, which sells cloud and networking systems and software to content, cloud and service providers.

Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed. The transaction is expected to close during the second quarter of 2016.

With the additional tech resources, Juniper plans to integrate BTI's portfolio with its own NorthStar traffic optimization WAN SDN controller for open and automated delivery across networks.

Jonathan Davidson, executive vice president and general manager of development and innovation at Juniper, elaborated further in a blog post, about which markets Juniper plans to target.

"The combination of BTI Systems' accomplished team, innovative and open solutions with Juniper's longstanding switching and IP routing expertise positions the company well to take advantage of the fast growing DCI and Metro markets," Davidson wrote.

BTI Systems CEO and president Colin Doherty added in a separate statement that BTI's existing "roadmap" will play a key role in Juniper's agenda for building cloud network infrastructure solutions coming soon.
