Kordia nabs AU$90m gas comms deal

Kordia Australia has secured a substantial contract with a gas company, giving it a foothold in the lucrative resources industry.

Australia Pacific LNG has contracted Kordia Australia to supply the communications and infrastructure required for a coal seam gas project in regional Queensland in a deal worth AU$90 million.

Kordia will provide network design, engineering, procurement and construction services for fixed and wireless services that will provide communications for a 100,000 square kilometre area.

It proved its ability to Australia Pacific LNG in a pilot and preliminary works that started in June last year, and will now start work on a two-year main works project to implement a private network, including a microwave backbone, mobile voice, broadband wireless, PABXs, radio telemetry and LAN and WAN services over the area, which will be linked back to a Brisbane control centre.

"Kordia is looking forward to extending our extensive infrastructure experience in the telecommunications sector into a resources industry looking for innovation and best of breed solutions," Kordia's managing director Peter Robson said in a statement.
