Microsoft Office). It also includes a VIA C3 1-GHz processor, 128 megabytes of RAM, a 30 gigabyte hard drive, a CD-ROM drive, and a 14.1-inch LCD screen. For $548, Walmart.com has a laptop with a 1.1 GHz AMD Athlon 4 processor, 128 megabytes of RAM, a 40 gigabyte hard drive, a DVD drive, integrated 802.11b wireless networking and Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition.

For comparison, Dell has a $799 laptop with a 2.20 GHz Intel Celeron processor, 256 megabytes of RAM, a 40 gigabyte hard drive, a 24X CD-RW/DVD combo drive, Windows XP Home edition, a 802.11 b/g wireless card, an assortment of productivity software and a 15-inch LCD screen, plus a free Dell color ink jet printer and free two-day shipping.
