Patagon.com International, the Latin America-based financial and Internet portal, announced its entry into the U.S. market with the acquisition of KeyTrade Online, a discount brokerage firm that earlier in the year established strategic partnership agreements with Microsoft Network, NBCI, Earth Link and InvestLink. Patagon.com will benefit from these partnership agreements to expand its visibility and increase its customer base in the U.S. Last March, Banco Santander Central Hispano, which has operations in Europe and Latin America, purchased 75 percent of Patagon.com for $585 million. After this investment, the company became Santander's online arm and acquired Open Bank, the largest online bank in Spain, in an effort to consolidate its presence in the European market. Patagon.com, which launched its business in Argentina, now has offices in Miami, New York, Madrid, Buenos Aires, São Paulo, Santiago, Mexico City and Caracas. -- ZDNet Latin America
