Lenovo and EMC unwrap joint venture, eye SME storage

Lenovo and EMC have celebrated the new year by taking the wrapping off their first joint venture, LenovoEMC Ltd, which will sell co-branded NAS gear and give EMC a way into the Chinese market.

Lenovo and EMC have joined forces to sell co-branded network area storage gear to enterprises and small businesses, giving EMC a way into the Chinese market and Lenovo access to EMC's advanced Iomega storage technology.

The two companies have completed the formation of LenovoEMC Ltd, a collaboration between the two companies that was  first announced in August 2012 .

The joint venture represents part of a larger collaboration between the two companies that will also see them co-develop x86-based servers. Additionally, Lenovo will resell EMC's own storage hardware and software.

The companies anticipate that the Iomega gear will be paired with Lenovo's server and workstation products for additional storage capacity.

"Lenovo's record as one of the fastest-growing technology companies in the world and Iomega's heritage as a leader in network storage solutions enables the joint venture to pursue growth opportunities and drive innovation in the SMB NAS market," Eric Arcese, general manager of LenovoEMC Ltd, said in a statement on Thursday.
