Lenovo, Zenoss partner to improve IT solution delivery

The companies say their efforts will improve IT service delivery, reliability and operational efficiency within the enterprise.

Lenovo and Zenoss have announced a strategic partnership to improve IT service delivery within the enterprise.

Announced on Friday, the partnership is intended to "help enterprises and service providers improve IT service reliability, responsiveness and operational efficiency."

As part of the agreement, the Zenoss Resource platform will be extended by the addition of the ZenPack plug-in to Lenovo's lineup of x86 servers.

Zenoss, a provider of unified monitoring and analytics solutions for enterprise clients, offers a platform which gives customers increased visibility into x86 server environments in virtualized, converged and cloud infrastructures. The system automatically discovers and models all resources in the environment, providing content in real-time, which Zenoss says can help clients isolate and resolve problems even in rapidly-changing environments.

Kelly Beavers, vice president of the Enterprise Business Group at Lenovo commented:

"With this alliance, Lenovo and Zenoss are proactively addressing customer requirements for unified monitoring and event management of cloud-based applications running on virtual and physical infrastructures."

It is not just its position within enterprise IT that Lenovo would like to strengthen. Earlier this month, chairman and chief executive of Lenovo Yang Yuanqing said the firm's acquisition of Motorola Mobility will help the PC maker make progress in the smartphone industry, and potentially stand up against dominant players Apple and Samsung.

The executive believes that the $2.91 billion acquisition of Motorola's handset business has given Lenovo the tools to compete against other Chinese handset makers and those in the US eventually -- but whether Lenovo joined the game too late is anyone's guess.
