LG will unveil its next flagship smartphone, the V20, in San Francisco on September 6, the company's invitation for the event says.

The South Korean tech giant has also on Thursday sent out invites for the unveiling event that will be taking place in Seoul on September 7.

The invitation explicitly names the phone with the moniker "the second story begins, LG V20" above the event date. The V20 is a successor to LG's phablet V10 launched in the second half of last year.

Atop the invitation is the phrase "play more," with a colorful pop-up book, a likely reference to the phone's strong multimedia features.

The US version of the invitation shows San Francisco landmarks as pop-ups, as it does for Seoul's for the Korean version.

Earlier this week, the company announced that the V20 will be powered by the latest version of Android, Nougat.

Much is riding on the V20 for LG's mobile division: The business saw a loss of $135 million in the second quarter of the financial year.
