Likely scenario: national BlackBerry carrier buys a regional BB carrier

It's not only interesting but potentially transformative to BlackBerry users when reports surface that one BlackBerry carrier is looking to purchase another.

Take Alltel Wireless, for example. Currently, Alltel Wireless offers the BlackBerry 8703e as well as the BlackBerry 7130e.

That's why it is important to note that The Wall Street Journal's in-house Tech Deals blogger Dana Cimilluca uses statements uttered by AT&T Chief Financial Officer Rick Lindner during a conference call yesterday to enhance the already prevalent notion that AT&T is strongly considering a purchase of Alltel Wireless.

"To the extent there are opportunities to strengthen our wireless business, which is a major source of growth, we will continue to look at opportunities there as well.," Cimilluca quotes Lindner as remarking.

This Wall Street Journal article last month attested that AT&T has made overtures to Alltel. The article mentioned primarily rural wireless provider Alltel's more thgan 12 million customers in 35 states as an attraction to AT&T.
