Last week Marc Benioff, CEO Salesforce.com tweeted about his Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad.
This really is an amazing product, and truly worthwhile. A game changer. Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for iPad amazon.com/gp/product/B00… — Marc Benioff (@Benioff) June 8, 2012
I'd seen it on the Logitech site and thought it looked just the thing for a Gen X guy who loves his iPad but hates not having a physical keyboard. In a direct message on Twitter, Marc said I'd love it. He is right.
Jon Reed my video partner picked one up from a local Best Buy (check for stock) for me before flying over to London this week. It is everything Marc said it would be and then some. Turn it on, pair it up to your iPad via bluetooth and you're in business.
The keyboard is (obviously) smaller than either the stand alone Apple keyboard or that which is on the laptop range but the feel is almost identical, as is the individual key travel and key size.. The cradle is rock solid, the 'fn' keys are very similar to those on the Apple keyboard with a few twists for the iPad.
The only slight niggle I have is that you have to remember that when closed, you really need to have the Apple 'side' facing you for when you open it. Otherwise you need to lay it flat and turn around.
The makers reckon you can get three months use out of it from one charge (via the mini USB) based upon having it open two hours a day. That's awesome.
Now....if only the iPad had enough power and capability to ingest and process video...hmmm.
If you choose to get one then I am pretty sure you'll see it as $100 well spent.
