London police warn web cafe users over extremist material

Metropolitan Police officers are visiting dozens of internet cafes in London boroughs to spread warnings about viewing extremist material online.

The cops are going around cafes in Harrow, Camden and Westminster, following a similar project in Tower Hamlets last year. According to the Met, the vast majority of those businesses visited have agreed to put up warning posters and screensavers, telling customers that any breach of the new 'Internet Policy' "could result in their access being terminated and possibly the police being informed".

"The initiative, which is entirely voluntary, also aims to prevent customers using the internet for other unlawful purposes such as fraud or accessing child abuse images," the police said in a statement on Tuesday.
