Looming work stoppage: Free NCAA March madness
CBS will be streaming the NCAA tournament online, also known as March Madness for free, sucking up network bandwidth and lowering work productivity across America. Viewers can watch up to 56 games from the first three rounds of the Championship--you'll have to pay for the final rounds.
The network monitors will be in full force, checking on bandwidth usage and seeing if productivity slacks off, and it will to the tune of several billion dollars. According to Websense, a yearly increase of 31 percent in sports-related sites and 56 percent for gambling-related sites factors into decreasing in employee productivity, network bandwidth overload and computer security breaches during tournament time, which begins March 15.
