KUALA LUMPUR, 25 May 2000 - Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has subscribed for a 15 percent equity in Internet technology specialist, Alam Teknokrat Sdn. Bhd. (Skali Group), that will see the e-business company’s involvement introducing e-business services within the MAHB Group.

Tengku Farith Rithauddeen, president of Skali Group, said the investment by MAHB will create a synergistic partnership and together will exploit the various e-business opportunities within MAHB’s value chain.

"These include companies within the MAHB group, passengers, individual users of MAHB’s facilities and businesses linked to MAHB such as retailers, exhibitors, airlines and forwarders," he said.

"Through this partnership with Skali, MAHB will benefit from adopting Internet-based solutions to increase their productivity and competitive edge and achieve cost optimisation within its value chain.

"At the same time, MAHB's Internet-related services will substantively transform the way they market their products and services, completing payments on line and enhancing their customer services," he added.

Skali Group was founded in 1997 and earlier this year underwent a corporate rebranding exercise to align its corporate name and those of its two major service divisions under a single brand entity.

Its portal services arm and technology infrastructure division are expected to play active roles in enabling various divisions of MAHB to acquire e-presence.

Skali.net specializes in powering e-business communities with what it calls its “one-stop to dot.com” managed services, while Skali.com specializes in aggregating Internet content, tools and services.

MAHB’s investment will be carried out through the subscription of 1.156 million new Skali ordinary shares at RM1.00 for a cash consideration of RM7.5 million and a subscription of 1,000 new redeemable preference shares of RM1.00 each for a consideration of RM7.5 million.

“MAHB is moving rapidly to gain Internet presence and this strategic partnership will provide substantial benefits to both parties. Skali Group has a proven track record in Internet-based businesses and has the ready experience, technical expertise and resources to provide a wide range of value added e-services to MAHB Group’s facilities and resources,” says Rosman Abdullah, Executive Director of MAHB.

In effect, MAHB will leverage on Skali’s multifaceted e-business experience to execute their migration into e-space, while ensuring the "dot-com" process is undertaken cost effectively, easily and with the least operational burden.
