Mash ups are not just for consumer apps

We are beginning to see good examples what's possible with open APIs, AJAX, Flash, Flex and other technologies that are making Web pages 'Live.' Of course, I am referring to Microsoft term for next generation Web experiences, mash ups, Web 2.0, remix, the death of the page view model. Windows Live is clunky and buggy at this point and playing catch up with others building personalized, RSS, AJAXed pages, but the term "live" nicely captures where the Web user, and developer, experience are heading. It's about animating, bringing to life, ways of overlaying information--mashing up different components to create much more compelling and useful software. Yahoo Maps, for example, is using Flash to integrate with local search, real-time traffic reports, event listings, trip plannning, etc. 

This concept of mash ups and using Web technologies, like AJAX and Flash, to animiate (enliven)applications should be on the minds of developers of corporate applications. With the open APIs, component architectures, SOA and all the other trendy software development themes, corporate applications could greatly increase the much vaunted productivity factor of employees, especially as it relates to visualizing data, remixing applications and creating better user experiences.
