OK, let us get up close and personal with what we mean by a lifetime. According to our latest audience profile study, the average age of a ZDNet reader is 45. The same study notes that our readership is 80% male, 20% female.

Themost recent lifespan studyfrom the NationalCenter for Health Statisticsestimates that the average future life span for a 45 year-old male is 32.6 years. For females, the figure is 36.7. Computing these numbers proportional to our readership, we get 33.42 years. Because lifespan increases with education, and lots of you are educated, the figure is somewhat higher, so let us call that 35 years.

Presumably, then, to cover you readers on average, Phone For Life should be around until 2039, and hopefully beyond that for you younger clickers.

In any case, as they say on Vulcan, "live long and prosper."
